How Much Auto Insurance do You Really Need?
November 4, 2008
It is simple to make the all too common mistake of buying too much or too little auto insurance for your needs. A few of the questions you want to ask yourself, according to experts, are one what kind of deductible should I pay?, and two, how much coverage should I purchase? Answering these two questions will help make deciding what the right amount of auto insurance is for you a breeze.
Deciding what amount you would like for your deductible is as simple as deciding where you are financially and how much money you will really have to pay if you have an auto accident. The deductibles on auto insurance usually range anywhere from $1,000 to as low as $250.
The lower your deductible is the more you will end up paying throughout the year; however, if you want to make low payments each month you will have to pay a higher deductible in the case of an auto accident. If you are a person who always has a bit in savings then a $1,000 deductible might not be that big of a deal, but if you live tightly then you may want a nice low deductible such as $250.
Deciding the amount of coverage for both body and property is also a useful factor in knowing how much insurance to purchase. Liability coverage is very important in case you cause damage to property or people. If the amount you are covered for is much less than the amount of money you have in savings and stocks you may want to up the amount. If you do severe damage to property or people and you only have half that amount of even less than you will be personally responsible for paying the remaining amount.
Having these two questions answered before you go to buy will make all the difference in whether you are buying just the right amount of auto insurance.
