GEICO Awards Scholarships To Policyholders
September 26th, 09As part of a program to help college and university students meet their educational goals, GEICO insurance has created its GEICO $1,000 Achievement Awards. As a result, hundreds of students have now earned this award.
These awards are presented to those students who have shown academic excellence in the fields of mathematics, computer science, business or other related fields and who have demonstrated characteristics of leadership in their local environment.
“We know the value of education and so do these students,” said Jan Stewart, GEICO vice president. “We hope they have a good academic experience and get off to a good start in the business world later.”
If students wish to qualify for the GEICO Achievement Award program, they are required to be undergraduates attending an accredited four-year college or university, possess sophomore or junior status, and have a 3.0 overall GPA or higher at the time of application.
In fact, you can join the 2010 right now when you visit GEICO’s website.
GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company), a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, is the country’s third-largest private passenger auto insurer. The company provides car insurance coverage for nearly 9 million policyholders and insures more than 16 million vehicles annually.
This move by the insurer is a bold one meant to bolster support for the many students who are struggling to improve their earning potential in a weakened economy. The GEICO Achievement Award is a high-profile solution. While there are other groups seeking to offer aid to college students, not the least of which is the federal government and the Obama Administration, GEICO’s program is garnering a huge amount of praise.
The real test is whether this will spur other companies to formulate similar programs to foster continued or secondary education but also help lay a solid foundation for the next generation work force.
